Yo all, I'm a total noob and struggle with graphics. I need to do a few simple website buttons and backgrounds. Can anyone recomend some free and easy to use s/w with tutorials and/or where to start??

Cheers,

Olly.

I've got Draw it and seahorse so far but I am struggling to use either......

I'm ok enough at actually scripting (JS, and CSS) but I'm more looking for how to guides to use the graphics packages better, or a recommendation of a more noob friendly package. I just seem to really struggle using them and can't do what I want.

Have you tried the tutorials on the DrawIt website?

Any graphics app has a learning curve. You just cannot pick one up and be expecting to produce pro level work immediately. Other options are Omnigraffle (expensive though), Acorn and Pixelmator (more image editing and still not free).

or free try Pixen or you can get some more options here:

BTW, my most awesome sig below was created using DrawIt. :)

Try the video tutorials from Bert Monroy on PixelPerfect, although its photoshop he explains things well and provides you with new ways of thinking, for drawing all types of things.

and theres also PSDTuts, lays it out for you step by step, if your lazy :p

I love how people so nonchalantly talk about photoshop like they've actually ponied up the dough for it!!

I wouldn't say that Seahorse or DrawIt are graphics packages (not really used DrawIt though), aren't they more just drawing apps, like paint replacements?

a lot of people can afford it! also a student version can be had for £138 so if you studying or working in a creative industry i don't see why you wouldn't have it!

haha! whatever you've got to tell yourself. I don't think for a second that you really believe that!

I love how you're randomly applying a sweeping statement to suggest otherwise.

What he said, learnt a few things about Illustrator and Lightroom from him and his guests too!

PSD tuts is excellent too, but now I've seen someone who reads it I can't use my new sig as planned. :p
