I have been everywhere looking for the solution to this easy easy problem and its driving me crazy! I wondered if anyone could help me out? I am using imageready and trying to create a rollover effect.

I have image mapped some areas (as can be seen in the link) and by right clicking on the image map I can create a rollover state for 'over' however how do I make the "over" effect do anything!?

Thanks guys:)

Ok.. Basically this depends on what you want the selected part of the whole image (in this case the first image map..) to do. For example whether you want it to highlight that area, or have the whole areas colour slightly change to show that it is currently highlighted.

To do this you click on the 'Over' state on the toolbar for the image map you want to make 'do something..'. You then say for example want to edit its colour (to show its highlighted).. You then select the object, or shape you want to edit and make the adjustments to the colour etc.. While making sure the 'Over' state is selected. Once done click back onto normal.. And if you preview this in a Web browser, when the mouse is rolled over the selected image map that area will change colour.

This method can be used to change or edit any part of the image when rolled over.

I hope you can follow those instructions, if you have anymore questions just ask..

The way you have described it is v simple and clear and yet I still cannot do it! Yes all I want to to is highlight the image map area when the mouse is over it. Whilst selecting the imagemap on 'over' I cannot make any adjustments to that specifc area, also any changed to the whole image are permenant. How do I make adjustments to that imagemap area?
Is the problem that I only have 1 image, do I need to seperate all the seperate components into layers??

Yes thats correct, you will need layers for each seperate 'location' (or selected area) on the map.. Which then can be edited individually on each of their rollover states.

Having multiple layers for each location is the easiest way of doing it. ..And if the 'over' state is selected then the changes you made to that part of the image only come into effect when the mouse is rolled over..

Screenshots below..

Step1: the Canvas with one shape, plus an image map of that shape.

Step2: Adding a rollover state.

Step3: Selecting or 'activating' the roll over state, ready for editing.

Step4: Changing the images 'layer style' (on the roll over state) with a red colour overlay.

Step5: Selected normal and you can see the Image map and roll over state, with the red colour overlay.

..Example of this one in action.. Click Here.

Hope that helps! ;)
