Hi guys,
I've seen it before but I don't know where.

Basically I think it's a photoshop brush or filter to convert an image to being made up of hundreds of circles.

Smaller circles = smaller lines + less definition.
Larger circles = bigger definition.

Any ideas whether i've thought this up from no where? I was thinking of mimicking it on a case of mine.

I just need to know how to take an image and make it out of circles instead :p

I'm not sure what you mean... are you talking about Dot Matrix? this is a famous example of dot matrix if it is what you are after. YOu probably cant see the dots cause the pic is scaled but trust me, it's made of dots.

Dampcat, thats not the right thing or atleast not by my understanding of the post.

The Op is after a technique called halftoning, theres a filter in photoshop that can do it, but you will need to tweak the sizes of the dots etc to get the effect youre after.

Hmm, a rasterbated case mod is a very interesting prospect. The rasterbator sizes the dots in a grid to make an image. You'd probably then want to use a computer controlled machine to drill the holes based on the observed size of the dots. Very cool. It could be very automated but I suspect if you would end up doing some of the size interpretation manually.

EDIT: Specifically what do you want to do, volmasoft? I think I'd like to help. :)
