Imaging Hard Drive under Windows XP

Hi there

I'm in the process of installing Windows XP after a new build. I have 2 identical hard drives and I want to use the second to make an image of the first. I'll probably use acronis or norton ghost.

My question is, how do I setup the second hard drive to achieve this?

At the moment, I've partitioned the first and second hard drives (c: and d: ) whilst installing XP, and then I assume I format the second drive with NTFS through disk manager after Windows has installed. Is this the correct way to do it?

Or should I be installing Windows completely first, and add the second hard drive afterwards? Then proceed with a format from there?

Is there a prefered way?

Shouldnt matter, just use an acronis boot cd afterwards and clone it.
