Hi all,

Please can someone advise some software to help us with images.

Currently we use a very old version of ghost and store the .gho files on a network share. In order to create the image, we have to create a bootable disk using the .IMA file and then add the .GHO file - all very long.

Is there a piece of software which will catalogue our images, and allow us to keep track of them and deploy the images a bit easier than we currently do.

We have around 4 desktop images and about 5 laptop images.

Thanks

Acronis True Image Echo (I think that's what it is).

What we have at our place is a bootable USB Stick made with Acronis that allows us to restore and create images to any network share. We use hidden shares for security, so "\\server\ITimages$".

Works like a dream. Slight problem when the ethernet port doesn't want to play ball, but I get around this by having all of our images on our 250Gb USB Hard drive. Ethernet port works after re-imaging

Have just spoken to acronis about this and unfortunately their pricing policy is a bit rubbish

Alex: Please be aware that according to Acronis software licensing policy, you should purchase one copy of Acronis program per each machine it will be used with.

Paul harman: we do not know how many machines it will be used with as it will be used to put our image on to new machines

Alex: You should purchase a license for each new machine you're going to deploy an image.

Seems a bit silly as we would have ongoing costs which sucks.

acronis need to make a 'technician' licence

otherwise people will continue to use their brilliant software illegally :/

Yeah, nothing to stop you actually using the Acronis True Image Echo Workstation on multiple machines is there... expect the legality obviously.

Seems sooo silly of them

I posed this to Acronis

Paul harman: why dont you guys make some sort of technician license

Paul harman: because it seems that a lot of people would be using it illegally at the moment

Alex: Each software has lots of illegal uses, not only Acronis. We are working with this situation, probably we will release similar kind of licensing in the future. Thank you for your suggestion.
