Good morning all,

Going to create a company image as we'll be buying new computers within the next few months - for £10/box they may as well save me a couple of hours each!

What imaging software do you suggest?

I managed to grab Acronis 10 license a few months back for free from a promotion, but having trouble finding a download for it - can only see 2009 -raised a support ticket with them.

Downloading Windows Automated Installation Kit now to have a go with ImageX.

If all the machines are the same, try Clonezilla if you don't need any fancy features. Not tried any of the network or multicasting features but I've been doing it sneakernet all week and it's not put a foot wrong. Great piece of free software just beware the interface is quite basic, if the command line freaks you out you may want to go with something like Acronis.

Guessing my copy of True Image Personal can't do imaging, only got backup/restore options.

Looking at their website - Acronis Snap Deploy should do what I want - no?

Looked at Clonezilla but need to get this sorted ASAP can't bothered fiddling around with command line tools for two days then having to do it all again because I missed a switch.

Edit: Guessing I've also got to use SysPrep.exe to remove SID as the image will be going on 20-30 machines.

Right, just tried the following.

Prepare desktop, drivers, applications, settings, etc.

Use SysPrep to wipe SID and press 'Reseal' with MiniSetup ticked.

Unistalll HDD - place in USB HDD caddy.

Create image with Acronis True Image Personal of HDD

Restore image to blank HDD

Install HDD in machine.

Then...nothing just a blinking cursor at the top

Exactly the same hardware (dx2420) am I missing something?

i had a play with acronis snap deploy. it's best network deployment imaging software i've tried.

acronis snap deploy will WOL (wake on lan) all machines and deploy them then create new SID autmatically. no need to sysprep the master image.

if you want manual. just enable PXE bootup all machines, press F12 and it will load acronis snap deploy agent from server. all you have to is click deploy button. that it!

i think it cost £14 per licence

at work, we use ghostcast server with RIS PXE bootup...it's okay.....

CloneZilla isn't exactly command line, it just looks basic.

Might be a coincidence, but I've had a nightmare this week with sysprep and a couple of DX2450s. I gave up with sysprep and just cloned it and then ran newSID on one of the machines.
