If i'm using Thunderbird to view my messages, what's the difference between deleting a message i've just read (in my inbox), or moving it to the 'All Mail' folder? 
When i used POP (not Gmail-hosted) i used to only save a select few messages that were of interest, and delete the rest. With Gmail, i started moving my 'keepers' to 'All Mail' and deleted the rest as normal.. but i think it's now the same thing?
