iMessage/SMS - separate conversation

I keep having issues where text with the same contact appears in separate conversations i.e. iMessage (blue) and SMS (green).

I have tried deleting the history but keep returning. Is there a resolution or is that how it is?

Most likely reason is that the person(s) on the other end are sending messages to you using both your email address and phone number at different times. Best bet would be to disable one of those, or at the very least make sure that it is sending messages from your phone number by default.
