Imgur has blocked the UK

Is a middle aged adult still wanting to access Imgur so albums in /r/diy still work considered naughty? Also a lot of posts on reddit are marked as nsfw even if they are not pornographic. This is what annoys. I do spend a lot less time on the internet so maybe it is for the best.

No not at all. It's a real pain given just how much people rely on Imgur all over the place.

If what you're trying to do would get you put in prison if you got caught, use Tails or Tor. For trying to load DIY images, really not needed :D

Step 1. Invest in VPN companies
Step 2. Make law that pushes people to buy vpns
Step 3. Profit
Labour MP stands up in parliament and announces 'the majority of the UK want to ban VPNs'

the 'majority' - a survey of 4000 over 65's, and I bet the questions were designed to elicit a particular response: 'VPNs are used to access violent or obscene content on the internet. Should they be banned?'

i don't mind the idea of this new law, but only if it was aimed at sites that are primarily in the porn category. a site having the ability to have a nude photo within it's millions of other non porny photos, should not have this rule apply to them.

This lab government are a bunch of *****

VPN use is up by 1000s of percent. That sounds more like the majority of the UK want the OSA gone.

Can't seem to edit my post... so ...

to be fair, i'm not sure the bill was first set out by the labour government...

it would be like you walking into a toilet with a big dump in it.. that won't flush.. and you just know the next person outside waiting is going to blame you..

I wish more sites would just block access to the UK like Imgur. Was hoping Wikipedia would do it too but I think they need the donations too much yo keep operating.

Id love to know how they could ever enforce it anyway.

Well, they could in theory force ISPs to block them, but:

A) that would cause a whole host of massive issues for many companies
and
B) It would be relatively trivial to create a VPN able to bypass the block

With the above taken into consideration, it's almost certainly something our utterly inept leaders will try. ****ing morons.

You know what it'll cause, increase in sex offences.

As those people who can't control themselves will need to get their fix elsewhere.

Went on a US based sports forum that i dont often use, and due to imgur being used all over the shop was madness. Had to scroll for an age between each post

I didn't realise this was a thing, omg. Stupid law. It just doesn't work in practice.
Simply because sites that aren't primarily porn sites are included. It's foolish to have the rule that if OCUK hosts images that we can upload to, they have to have this age verification.

Fair enough if OCUK forums has an "adult" section then that section should be age checked, but site wide? Thars crazy.

The fact is that because OCUK does not have an adult section, all of the site has to be family friendly. OCUK does not wish to use age verification rightly so.

It is Imjurs servers that have to proclaim that they are also family friendly or to have age verification which has caused them to not operate within our borders.

There are many plusses to the legislation and if it causes a few companies to not trade in the UK, there are plenty of others willing to. It is no great issue.

Yeah but thars what's wrong. This rule should apply to porn sites,or sections of a site that are dedicated to that content. The idea of protecting kids from porn sites is fine, but protecting kids from ever potentially seeing a barely dressed girl on a forum is where it gets ridiculous

Awww, keep going you'll get access some day.
