Hi just got in and accidentally left the immersion switch turned on for the last 24 hours

as I went to turn it off the whole socket on the wall was extremely hot to touch and I reckon that would burn my hand if I left it there

it is one of those fused connection units not sure which fuse is inside though.

I don’t use the immersion often, but this does not feel right to me and I am worried if I ever forget to turn it off.

is that normal or what could be the problem here or am I just paranoid. Thanks

There's a fair amount of current going through the switch, so it will get hot if running for extended periods. My place has electric water heating and two switches have failed in 12 years. That said I fitted a decent one last time and it lasted 8 years instead of 4 from the crappy one the house builder used.

Just keep an eye on it. If the switch feels crunchy or arcs when flipped then it might be on the way out. Cheaper to replace the switch than the immersion element.
