Saw a program about her last night as I was channel-flicking just before going to bed, her voice really caught me as they were playing one of her songs, so I scribbed down her name and got hold of Speak for Yourself (latest album) today, I'm going to go and buy some more of her albums tommorow, she was part of a project called Frou-Frou apparently (prefer having the CDs tbh).

I can't believe I haven't heard of her before!! Her music's great, there's a nice mix of electronic and acoustic sounds going on and her voice is quite unique. She produces all of her music herself in her home studio aswell and truely seems to be an artist rather than just a singer/songwriter who she could be likened to on first impression I suppose. I think it's a mix of Bjork meets Tori Amos

On the TV show last night she explained how she wrote and recorded the track Hide and Seek from the album, she's using a vocoder which harmonises her voice according to what she's playing on a keyboard, this is probably my favourite track on the whole album.

Does anyone else on her like her at all? Anyone else who hasn't heard of her here's a LINK to her myspace music profile which has some good tracks on it off her latest album.

EDIT: Oh yeah and she's playing at the Leeds Met on the 27th Sept, I'm definately going, she's starting her UK tour in Sept which runs through until Oct afaik.

I might see you there. :)

I think she is most notably known by young'uns at the moment for her dramatic songs shown in season finale's of The Oc, which is where I heard of her. I had a few Frou Frou songs previous to that, but on the event of The Oc season 2 with Hide and Seek, I heard it and loved it, I got her album and there are some amazing songs on there; Headlock, Goodnight and Go. :)

Oh excellent! :D Yeah on that proggy last night she mentioned they'd used a couple of her songs on there before (Goodnight and Go the first I believe).

I'm going to ask a couple of my bandmates if they want to come along to the gig, although to be honest I'm not sure it'll be their type of thing, so if you don't mind you might find me bumming along with you :D Muahaha..yes ahem.

Haha, I'll wear my bum proof jeans then. Incase you want to broaden your female vocal horizons out a bit more how about Regina Spektor; she's got the same feel of independance from other artists out there from her music which is quite good, and a bit different really.

Hope you enjoy your venture into her music. & new bumming career :p

Yeah, if you look on youtube you can see the effect the music has on the shooting being so atmospheric and all. Suits the scene really well too.

She has also done another track called "Speeding Cars" which has also appeared on the O.C.

If you look on google, you can find every song played in each episode. I've gotten into a lot of unrecognised bands (such as death cab, the walkmen etc) just from watching the show.

Season 4 should have some very new and interesting songs so i've been told... Roll on Nov 16. :D

Bah, gutted i missed that, been listenin to her stuff since Frou Frou, absolutely mint, speeding cars is class.

Saw her live early this year in Manchester, best vocals ive ever heard, and one of the best gigs ive been to.
it's one of those gigs where you can just stand, or sit, right at the front and just listen and enjoy the music, her setup is good, and watching her do some of the songs is just amazing.
Can't wait to see her in Leeds again!

I heard/saw Hide and Seek when i watched that episode of The OC and it was absolutely stunning. Still gets me every time i listen to it. I didnt know what to expect with the album but its a great variety. Good stuff

I have to say I'm not a fan of vocal effects, especially when it's a female voice. It sounds like she has some talent though :)

Bit of a bump, listened to Frou Frou and I Megaphone tonight, she has a really good voice. Still don't think she needs the effects she uses on the link though :)

heard hide and seek in a shoe shop in Truro last week...absolutely phenominal song...i can't get it out of my head, and i don't want to. only problem is i have to listen to mopey chick-music now...where are my PJ Harvey cds?

Make sure you buy Frou Frou - Details. Some of the songs of that are amazing like Let Go (Used in garden state) and maddening shroud etc.

Buy it!
