imovie alternatives (for pic slideshows)

hi

i spent several hours creating a picture slideshow in imovie. with music and transitions, text etc

had problems from the start. image and transition times have a complete mind of their own it seems.
it wouldn't play in full screen mode near the end, then it crashed when i tried to convert to a video

so is there something else i can try?
are these known problems with imovie?

any help appreciated

i suppose, you can't manipulate very much though or create an avi or quicktime etc

Just click the quicktime tab in the export dialogue?
