Impart your knowledge on SCSI?

I just need specific knowledge like -
do the drives have to be the same make?
do the drives have to be the same model?
how do i find out if i have a 64bit PCI slot?

i've had a google and understand the basics but i just need to know more specific information,

anything else you want add would be appreciated :)

Chances are you don't have a 64bit PCI slot unless you have a server motherboard.

If you're talking about RAID then the drives should be the same make and model.
 
Generally SCSI is very good at backwards compatability so it's not normally an issue but you need to be careful that you don't bottleneck things by skimping on the cable etc. You'll need an adapter to use 80pin SCA drives on a 68 way cable so make sure any adapters are capable of running at the speed of the drive/cable.

Unless you already have a source for cheap SCSI kit then it's worth investigating SAS as an alternative. It's a serial based replacement for SCSI (think SATA v IDE) which is a lot easier to deal with.
