Greetings, it has been a very long time since i worked with TS, probably back in the Windows 2000 days, unfortunately for my sake ive got to put together a Windows 2008 TS quote for a client, ive started dusting off some old books but i think times have moved on slightly.

I dont have a problem specifying the hardware just understanding the correct software and CALS i need to purchase for a working solution.

I need to provide TS and TS RemoteApp services for 20 users in an SBS environment, im looking at using Windows 2008 SBS Premium and two physical servers both of which i believe are covered by the SBS Premium license.

I then need to run ACT, MS Office 2007 Basic and IE7 from the TS server.

Now hopefully ive gotton this correct, i will need the following

1 x Windows 2008 SBS Premium License
20 x Windows Small Business Server 2008 CAL Suite for Premium Users or Devices
20 x Wndows 2008 Terminal Services CALs
20 x MS Office 2007 Basic Licenses

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Regards

Don't know about 2008 but with SBS 2003 you couldn't run it as a TS server, you needed to have a seperate server for that job

Thank you for your reply, as i have stated i will be running two physical servers, the Windows 2008 Standard license included in SBS 2008 Premium Edition will be used for the TS Server.

Just been setting up an SBS 2008 system with a TS, there are some good documents on MS on how to to get this working, watch out for the security cert on the SBS 2008, that caused me a few problems for a while.

You need the following:-

1 x Windows 2008 SBS Premium License - comes with 5 Premium licences and a 2nd Windows 2008 Server licence.
15 x Windows Small Business Server 2008 CAL Suite for Premium Users or Devices (I would go for Users)
20 x Windows 2008 Terminal Services CALs (Load onto the TS now not the SBS)
20 x MS Office 2007 Basic Licenses - You need Volume Licence's for TS.

The SBS 2008 Licences are paper licences only now, so do not require loading onto the Server.

IE7 will be fine but again you need to load the security cert onto the TS.

I can not help with ACT as I have not used it for several years now.

Bah... vision blurry after stressful gym session :(

Aside from that looks ok to me from the MS side of things.

ACT licenses?

I know the feeling all too well :) yes ACT is accounted for, like the chap above though it's be awhile.

Unfortunately im a Cisco network engineer with an MCSE so yes of course my ops director assumes TS is a breeze to provision :( Give me my router back! :D

Don't know what version of Act you will be using but with V9 of ACT! it won't work on 64bit OS installs. If you can I would consider using the web version of ACT! However it does run quite happily on TS in a 2003 environment.

Also you can't run office 2007 on a TS unless you have open licences. Check really carefully the 08 SBS will let you run TS in application mode.

You may want to consider 2008 standard server as a member server to carry out the TS role. This may work out cheaper as you won't need the extra gubbins (exchange/SQL etc) that comes with the SBS install.

^^

He speaks the truth you MUST buy the correct office licenses. OEM for example will not work on the terminal server - it needs to be volume licensing.
