Import Duties

I'm thinking of buying something from the USA off an auction site, however I don't know much about import duties. What are the chances I'll have to pay them? and if I do have to pay, how much should I expect?

Same situation myself, but my mother is going and I want to charge her with getting a camera, though on that site it says cameras aren't liable for fees

If ANYONE could clear this up for me I would be very grateful indeed. The total is looking to be about 350 quid for cam and lenses, far cheaper than over here...

They may not be liable for duty but they will get vat slapped on them if they are declared.

Lenses I think are 6%+Vat+courier fees (around £14).

Revenue and Customs info page

Add the duty (if applicable), then add the VAT on top of the new total.

2 out of the last 4 items I got from the US were caught by customs.
