Hi, just a quick bit of brain picking needed. Im thinking of buying a canon 70-200mm F4L and a possible 1.4 extender. As the lenses retails quiet high over here, if i ordered one from the states and got it delivered over to the uk would i have to pay an import duty or added vat charge?

I have never been to sure on this matter so any advise is gratley appreciated :)
Thanks

Go to the potn forums and speak with Kerso! Many people here and on the potn forums have dealt with him (including myself) and he's genuine and will save you a packet! Also, it's all new/boxed with warranty etc. Plus you won't have to worry about import tax. :)

i have spoken to Kerso and he has qouted me a price but i thought it may be cheaper from america thats why i wanted to know about import duty charges.

not sure if it would be worth the hastle tbh, not only might you be stung for import duty but vat as well.

best off dealing with kerso mate ;)

I may deal with Kerso but i still want to know if i will have to pay an import duty? as i said i do not know if i have to.

depends mate, you will normally only find out when the couruer arrives at your door with your package requesting duty to be payed.

luck of the draw im afraid as far as im aware :(

hmm i like the sound of this kerso fella, could someome be kind enough to post his email, failing that email his email to my email :p

If your package is checked, the following charges will be assessed:

VAT at 17.5%
Import Duty at 6.7%
Courier's service charge (variable)

( I believe that you have to pay VAT on the import duty as well, which means the total is [x 1.175 x 1.067] )

Maybe it's worthwhile to use the Hong Kong shops who offer to pay the VAT if you're charged for it.
