Import/export options greyed out in windows address book in xp

I went to backup my windows address book into a .wab file in xp, using the import/export options under "file" in windows address book

Although these seemed to be greyed out for some reason, I have done this many times before but this time it just wouldnt have it, any ideas ?

I was told that my "contacts" were not set to "contacts" if this is any help ?

P.S I got around it just by highlighting everything in windows address book and pasting it into a folder, but then when I pasted these into "windows contacts" in vista (on another machine) they transfered ok, but then wouldnt come up when i select "to" when I sent an e-mail using windows mail (because when i select "to" it normally shows me a list of contacts I can choose from)

To get them to show up, I had to double click each contact individually in windows contacts and select "use in contacts" or something like that. I would imagine they did not export properly as I did not use the import/export under file in windows xp

Sorry if thats confusing, hope it makes some sort of sence

Usually grays out due to it not being the default address book if I recall correctly, check that it's not setup to use Outlook as the address book.
