Hi all,

Just wondering how many of you have imported lenses from HK via ebay, and if you have had to pay tax or not.

Also what sort of amount is payable? Im guessing its a certain percentage?

Cheers

It's VAT at standard rate and 6.7% duty.

I'm buying a lens from the 'ElectronicVicar' who promises to refund any tax/duty/fees charged, so I'll let you know how I get on with that if you can wait a few days.

Some ebay sellers from HK guarantee that they will pay any customs charges that might get slapped onto any lens etc. The lowest prices on ebay usually do not guarantee the item will be custom charge free and if it gets hit you will have to pay the money.

So it is vat + 6.7% on whatever you paid for the lens?

I think I will probably get this one from an english supplier as I need it pretty quickly (well within about 10 days), its so frustrating to see lenses so much cheaper though.

Oh how we get ripped off!!

Let me know how it goes anyway,
