Importing from the US

If you get the item and then they say you owe them a tenner for sorting out customs can you refuse on the grounds that you never asked for it?

No. The sender agreed to the terms and conditions of the courier when they shipped the item - and part of those terms and conditions will have been that the receiver, unless otherwise specified, is responsible for all taxes, duties and associated administration costs.

The only way around this is to buy your items from somebody willing to ship the item to you as DDP, or purchase through Amazon International who offer a unique DDP shipping solution.

Or try declaring the goods yourself - but again, this requires full cooperation from the sender and courier

Christ, I ordered a litho from the BioWare store and it sounds like I'm going to get ****** with the import VAT. It's too late to do the clearance myself, which means I'll get stung...

GB import clearance is positively delightful compared to some countries.

Move to Russia for example, I assure you importing there is significantly more difficult than it is over here.

yup :)

doing my best to get it now.

Good luck, and post a thread in Project Logs if you get it in the end - Case Labs builds are almost always epic. Googling around, seems like most BioWare store shipments slip though the cracks; I may have luck with this, although a 18"x24" litho may catch their attention. :p

I usually get stung when ordering ice hockey gear but it still works out cheaper/better choice than buying stuff over here.

I've bought enough stuff in the past where the seller has marked the value down 'to help speed it through Customs' that when I occasionally get caught out, I just accept it now. I recently had an item where I had to outlay £30.59 to receive it (and it was VAT exempt so that was just duty and handling fee) but I'm still well up over the years.

I was more annoyed at the fact that it sat in Customs for the best part of a fortnight before it was released.

It's just one of the risks of importing stuff.

I hope I don't stung for any more that £600 to be honest.

Will be ordering the case about may time and with the atention of getting it about the beginning of June time.
