Impossible to stream properly on 14MB?

I've been trying to stream some game play recently but not having much success. My PC specs are good enough to handle a stream it's just my internet connection that's holding me back.

When I start the stream and view it from another device using a separate internet connection, the stream is really laggy and keeps pausing every couple of seconds or so. I don't have fibre in my area so we have to have Skys standard 14MB download and 1.1MB upload package.

I use Open broadcast to stream, what settings can I lower to try and make the stream viewable on a slow upload connection?

Cheers

I have even worse net than you, 8mb BT ADSL, I get a max 900kb download. I can still manage to stream fine in Netflix, iPlayer, Sky Player etc, just not in full HD. Any sort of downloading in the background though totally kills my stream.

What resolution and bit rate are you using on OBS?

He means upload streaming, like games etc :)

Oh, sorry!

I have been advised by a friend who does a lot of Twitch streaming that you want at least 2mb upload to make it stable.

I never stream myself, so I can't add anything more helpful. Sorry!

humm.... do a speed test and see what your max uploads speeds are. being a 1.1mb connection is really going to cripple you in terms of upload rate. I used to have a 3mb upload with VM and would set my upload to 2000kbits so i had about a meg of overhead.

for the resolution I'd set it to 720p (maybe a downscale lower from the drop down box) and set your rates to around 800-900 so you have a bit of overhead.

I found that when I was being throttled to an upload of 0.8meg that because the upload was maxed the rest of my internet activity suffered too... simple web pages took ages to load and caused frame drops, so having some overhead is very important. IMO.

one of the reasons I left VM due to their rubbish upload speed on my package and the silly throttling. :(

edit:

just saw your other post and you've set an upload rate faster than the internet you have :p that's why it's being rubbish... as I mentioned about having some overhead for other things. lower the rate to around where I suggested and well... it may look a bit blocky (probably quite a bit) but it should be stable :) *crosses fingers*

Cheers guys. I don't really understand streaming so wasn't sure about bitrate. Lowered it and now I can stream fine, it's just not perfect quality. :)
