My Windows 7 Professional Retail box arrived this morning, and I've spent most of the afternoon trying to upgrade my existing Vista on the box, without much of a success.

For starters, despite original assurances in pre-release times that any Vista can be upgraded to any 7 as long as architecture (386, x64) matches, out of the window - Vista Ultimate cannot be upgraded to anything else than 7 Ultimate. Fair enough. I made a mistake buying most exensive Vista version, , made a second mistake buying pre-order, investing in uncharted territory before reliable data was released, I should now suffer consequences. I guess there is always that "Anytime Upgrade", right?

Wrong. I spent most of the day trying to find any possible upgrade path from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate. It does not exist. Anything else, to anything else. Yes. Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate. No. Add to the equasion fact that I additionally need to upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate with Windows 7 Professional in hand and suddenly it's like upgrading Solaris on Sparc to Hackintosh with Slackware distro netboot on iomega zip drive. It's just one version of windows to another, while keeping Program Files and My Documents in place FFS. What's the big deal?
