Just installed my new DG834G and updated the firmware and the line stats have improved slightly....

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 576 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 61 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 20 db 20 db

How do these compare?

I'm on 512 at the moment, are they good enough for 1mb?

I think the cut off for 1mb is 60db, you may be under as router stats can be out, best try and apply, nothing to lose :)

IIRC;

A Router cannot "improve" line rates as its the quality of line and not the router. Therefore your pervious and current db readings could still be incorrect.

63db is the cut off point however even if you have lower than 63db doesnt mean you will get it as I have a 60-61 and I cant get 1mb

If you have a look at http://212.23.23.177/calc.asp it will show you your attenuation/NMargin is a key also and the make you can get is 830kb odd so no 1mb from BT

The values will probably change with different chipsets, which will have different schemes for allocating bits.
End of the day, use the calculator ste_bla linked to as a rough guide, and limits will become irrelevant once IP/DataStream Max comes along.

Tolien,

Is this the change that is rumoured for April?
You can check if BT have scheduled an upgrade date for your exchange here
Default date if not given is 31/03/2006 by which time AFAIK BT plan to have MaxDSL rolled out everywhere.

The statement we got from one of the Zen staff was that 31st March was for the rollout of DataStream Max.
AFAIK that is the "default" date given by BT - they expect all exchanges to be done by that date although many will be live earlier. From what I have seen from the results some people have been getting on ADSLGuide it looks like it will be a big step forward - especially for those of us currently restricted to 1Mb.

That line calculator is a bit flawed, only goes up to 8192?

i have a 2mb line, 20 attenuation, 32 noise margin which is meant to be excellent and it only ever says 8192

I wanna know what i could get with adsl2+
