I know this would be better in Laptop section but i need a quick answer!
I am going on holiday to Miami soon and considered buying a iPad for the trip because of its long battery however now i am considering just using my netbook.

Now at the moment my Acer has one 3 cell battery and it lasts around 2.30hrs. I have 2 of these so could easily charge both and have them with me for the flight.

Now i was looking at buying another battery but i am a bit wary because the advertised battery hours etc could be completely wrong and i may end up with another 3 cell but for double the price.

My netbook is currently running Win 7, would putting something like Ubuntu on there reduce battery use?
What other suggestions can you give to expanding my battery life?
PS-Does anyone have a 6/9 cell battery? how long do they last?

If you go into control panel, system and security, power options, you can set this to power saver which may help eek out a bit more
Dont have a 6 or 9 cell battery but in theory they should last the respective amounts, dbl and triple the length, just google acer 6 cell battery

I picked a 9cell replacement battery up for my old Acer One and that now lasts about 7 hours compared with about 2.5 on the original. It wasn't overly expensive either, about £30 off the bay if I remember right.

Mind emailing me the seller you bought it from? So i done end up with a dud one.
disable the lan / usb ports (unless you use them)

turn the backlight down
How do i disable the lan and usb? Well i wont use them on the plane so i suppose i can turn them off.

Apparently (not tested this myself) the power consumption between a SSD drive and a laptop drive is negligible.
Its more useful to disable WiFi, bluetooth, turn screen brightness down even using 16bit colours.

I've put a ssd in my netbook. It's a N110, but battery life is consistently over six hours with wifi on, and screen at full brightness. I don't take the charger to uni, as it lasts longer than I do. It does better with wifi off, and much worse (perhaps 4 hours) when charging a phone & browsing the web via bluetooth.

The ssd is partly to make the atom processor less frustrating, and partly so repeatedly dropping it doesn't matter very much. No moving parts :)

Guys i am looking at 9 cell batteries on the auction site but i have a feeling that the batteries arent what there cracked up to be.
Has anyone ever bought from there and so can email me a seller who they know sells legit batteries at the right capacitys?
SSD is a bit out of my price range at the moment and if i did get one it would be better used in my pc.

Shaolin, Thats what i thought, i am trying to and the easiest way is off the bay but im unsure as to which seller to go with as i dont want to end up with a rubbish battery that has cheap cells etc. Anyone ever bought one online? please email me where you got it from :)
