Hi All,

My spec is as per my signature, when playing this game (the original Rome) at 1080p with highest settings my fps is around the 20 to 40 mark. Is there anyway to improve this at all?

I'm reluctant to turn the settings down as modern PCs should steam roll this surely?

I know the game is single threaded etc but there must be some mods or tweaks to get better performance? My Google Fu is failing me :(

Any help is much appreciated!

If it the game is heavily built around a single threaded model and running into drawcall limits or other API bottlenecks not a lot that can really be done without having the entire source code and a serious rebuild.

You must be playng this game modded with full stack armies and huge unit groups. When I was playing this back in the day with the SPQR mod my overclocked E6400 and 8800GT in big battles would crawl down to 9-11 Fps maybe lower when I zoomed in to the action.

I would say to get 20 to 40 fps with a similar scenario to what I was playing with then thats prett impressive and shows just how much technology has moved forward even when show cased on an engine that was out of date on release back in 2004.

I was discussing the same thing with a guy at work today. He just got a pc with a 390 also and wanted to play Rome 1 on everything full with huge armies I said it should perform great these days. I guess it's all about how far single threaded cpu performance has improved since core 2 duo.

i7 his spec

I'm drunk. :( :o

Question is still relevant though. I play, and love RTW. I use huge units, although I don't pay much attention to my FPS per-se, but it usually runs OK, but there again I'm running an i5 @ 4.3Ghz so that may be a big help in single-threaded applications.

Jonny L, try Darthmod. It may not improve your FPS, but it improves the game a lot! :D
