In-Car FM Transmitters

Hopefully now that we're on about this anyways, does anyone know how to get the aux input on a JVC HU working ? I have a HU with both an aux cable at the back and a usb plug in the front. The usb works fine as I always have a USB stick with with me, I can switch between radio, cd and usb with the source button, BUT, I tried plugging in a 3.5mm cable into the aux and on the other end into an ipod, and it didn't work, the ''aux'' source did not pop up when it was plugged in like the ''usb'' source pops up when I plug something in... Is there some other way to get to the ''aux'' input ? As pressing source only switches between FM, CD and USB...

There should be a source selection button somewhere on the front, mine is labeled SRC on my G-411. The manual might be of help too, try Googleing the model number and JVC manual

I've got a Belkin one that's works well with my iPhone you just have to turn airplane mode on which stops most of the interferance.

You'll probably find there's also a connector near that aux in on the back for controlling a CD changer. It it doesn't think there is an attached CD changer it will never listen to the line-in for it.

Autoleads probably make a CD changer emulator for it. They do for my Sony HU.

The transmitter on my N900 works fairly well with my Sony GTX-410u - not amazing quality but i have yet to have crippling interferance - and i love the RDS track names it shows :D

Thanks, silly JVC, have to make it user unfriendly :(. Oh well guess I'll stick to USB and FM transmitters ( in the case of my phone) unless these emulators are really cheap or there's another way.

Hmmm, the cd changer plug is a 4 pin plug iirc, would it be possible to fool the HU that something is plugged in to the AUX port by short circuiting 2 of the pins ( not a clue which of the 4 though :() ?

EDIT:

The manual of my jvc radio says it supports an ipod, I have no clue how to get that working though :(. I tried plugging in the ipod to the aux with a 3.5mm cable but I just cant select the source.
The manual says 3 things:
Check the cable and connection.
Recharge the battery.
Update the firmware.

How would I go about updating my HU's firmware  ?

EDIT2:

Apparently I need a ''KS-PD100'' converter. Bloody morons, what's wrong with a bloody universal 3.5 mm TRS cable rather than messing around with some ****ing Ipod plug  ? Why did they put it there if you can't under it with any universal audio device?
IF anyone knows of any ''hack'' eg. what poles to short circuit so it picks up something from the aux port, I'd be grateful.

Edit3:
Hmmm, I need a JVC KS-U58 adapter for 3.5 mm things, I wonder why on earth they put a 3.5mm port on the back if you need an adapter .
The only issue is, this adapter costs 45 bloody euro's, I can nearly buy a new HU for that .

or there's another way.

Maybe a Parrot hands free kit. They do ones that have an iPod trailing lead. I have a Parrot that plays all my mp3/GPS voice over the bluetooth from my Nokia 5800, cost me £30. And of course I can answer and dial out with the phone. All digital connection with its own amplifier etc, quite simple to install using the correct plug and play adapter lead. I didn't have a lot of choice as I wanted to keep the Vauxhall double din head and display. Works brilliantly.

Sorry to bump this, but maybe someone here can help

I want something for my 2005 ford focus, it has the ford 6000 stereo at moment installed but the version with the CD CHANGER button instead of the AUX in button,

anyway can I get a line in for a mp3 player into this stereo ?

dont know what its all called for me to 'search' for. :(

I just fancy getting my mp3 player into my car but alas NO line in on this stereo.

help.................thanks.

I bought a decent Belkin TuneCast after someone being adamant that the cheap ones are no comparison.

I'm actually very surprised by it - its fine in both cars, and I'm a bit of an audiophile (That said, I think I'd be disappointed where I had a decent sound system in the car).

+1

I've got an itrip auto, which cost about £50, so not the same as a one you get from a garage for £4.99, along with your fill up and a mars bar, and works very well, prefer it over the aux in I have in the focus.

I have to say the Fm transmitter in my Nokia N86 is pretty good. Worked great on a weekend away and works well in the car. It will even stream my Spotify player as well.

I drive a different truck everyday and need a portable solution. The Griffin Roadtrip gets me around most of the UK, South of the Trent on 87.8 very well. I believe earlier Griffins don't go as low as that though.

I have a Griffin one, its the one which plugs into the cigarette lighter socket, so gets 12V supply and then connects to your ipod so charges it up also.

Plugged directly into the socket it works well, gives a strong signal and is more than adequate.

If you use a 12v multi-socket though to use other devices such as satnav at the same time it weakens the signal and you can get some interference depending on what frequency you are using.
