In-ceiling /in-wall speakers

We're buying a new-build house. One of the rooms I want to turn into a cinema in the future.

One of the things I don't want is speakers everywhere, so I'm thinking of in-ceiling or in-wall speakers. The house is still at the electrics and plumbing stage, so if I'm going to do this, now is as good a time as any. Ceiling would be easier to sell to the other half I reckon.

I figure I'd still use 'proper' speakers for the front soundstage but its the various surround jobbies I'm looking to hide. I figure one per corner would be sufficient to play about with room layout.

So.. what do I need to look out for / avoid? Any special fitting needed for them, or is it just cut holes, run cables, fit speaker, and maybe some caulking/sealer to refit to the ceiling?

I figure all the cable runs should go back to wherever I want the AV amp, and that I should have a face-plate with banana sockets to patch up to the amp.

I'm also hoping to get a projector permanently mounted up there, so I'll need a mains socket, and a HDMI connection. Can you get HDMI sockets that are wall/ceiling mountable?

Ta!

Depends on your budget but I used Monitor Audio in wall and ceiling speakers for my garage conversion. Wife didn't want speakers "on show" etc.

Sound is superb and can't fault them 3 years on. Simple to fit, clean install etc.

That looks a fantastic setup.

I may need to go cheap with the speakers initially, but as long as I don't go smaller, I can always upgrade in the future. Its the cabling and wallplates I think I really need in and sorted as replacing that would be a pain in the whatsits.

Depends - cabling was easy as it was a garage conversion so I could put it in before the walls went up etc. Speakers were not that expensive - think 3 fronts and 2 rears came to around £600. Sub was £400 on it's own but damn worth it!

Anything else just ask

It's great how different people are

I love speakers to be separate. And part of the room Furniture.

I thought I would be - but the wife said no to speakers "on show" - but fine to a full mancave being built!:p:p Had to accept it and move on. Works great in the end!

Keep her happy and you'll be able to sneak all kinds of better equipment in :p

I think nowadays, in-wall and in-ceiling speakers have come a long way and can sound just as fantastic.
Test all the wiring before you are finished running, get the decent cable. Try and future proof as much as you can. 5.1? 7.1? 7.2 in the future maybe?
