My brothers into Football and when I say that I mean he's obsessed. He's done his scout training course a few years back and has been out and about for a few local clubs. I caught him reading James Tippetts 'The Expected Goals Philosophy' a few days ago and was wondering if there's any books in a similar vein that would suit him.

I'm not talking about biographies and the like that he's most likely already read, I mean more fringe literature that's well regarded by people in the know shall we say.

I'd second 'Inverting the Pyramid'.

I also really enjoyed two of Wilson's other books I've read; 'Behind the Iron Curtain: Travels in Eastern European Football' and 'Angels with Dirty Faces: the Footballing History of Argentina'. He most recently released a book about Hungarian football, which I've yet to read.

Honigstein's book, Das Reboot: How German Football Reinvented Itself and Conquered the World is a good read. It's about German football from the 90's through to their world cup win in 2014.

The damned United for something less technical. Moneyball, although not about Football is also a good read and goes into analytical detail about how scouting changed and a lot of the analysis from baseball then is now used in Football.
