Hi there,

First my machine spec:
Q6600 @ 3.4ghz
8800gt
150gb raptorx
Asus p5k Premium.

Basically everything was fine with this setup until today, after several hours of COD4 suddenly I got loads of artifacts and then a crash out, happend when I first started trying to overclock but its been stable (prime/orthos stable) for months...

Can an overclock suddenly become unstable? Anyways, the graphics card is at stock speeds. I took off the overclock completely and am getting artifacting/crashing in windows too now... I had recently changed to the newest nvidia driver release (vista 64 so 64 bit edition) so thought that might have caused a problem, however I rolled back to the microsoft default drivers adn am still getting very weird graphics issues. Currently there are massive stripes going down my screen but windows hasnt locked up yet (hence me typing this post).

Sombody please help!

Have you got another graphics card you can use for testing? It sounds like it may be fubared if it's artifacting at stock.

Unfortunately I don't, the temps have all been nice and low though, I mean I've got a custom thermaltake cooler on my gfx card and have NEVER overclocked it at all!

I think EVGA will still let me use the warranty despite the cooler I put on right? Hope so, I kept the origional anyways...

Is there any way I can check to see if it is indeed the gfx card thats borked?

I think your warranty is void as soon as you mess with the hardware especially in the way you have...but then what they dont know and all that ;)

If you are getting constant artifacts in windows and lines running down the screen then it definately suggests your GPU is screwed...You could purchase a cheap PCIE from a well known auction site for a few quid to test and confirm whether it is your GPU for sure...But having said that I am 99.9% confident it is as you are describing all the symptoms one would experience when there GPU is fubared

Artifacts in windows at stock means fubar graphics card. Get it replaced, but I strongly suggest you put back the original EVGA cooler or there's very lttle chance they will RMA.

Yep, EVGA are the only graphics card company that let you use aftermarket cooling without voiding your warranty, just put the original one back on if you have to RMA it.

Update: Bought a cheap 8400gs today and everything is now working fine, clearly the card did fubar on me. Anyone know why it would do this despite months of working fine and very nice low temps?!

Also another thing I'm wondering is why bios reported that my overclock (cpu) failed, despite it being my graphics card at fault... Could my overclock have somehow shortened my graphics card's life? (I did set the pci-e frequency to 100hz to make sure it wasn't affected though)...

Any answers would be much appreciated, and thank you everyone for your help so far.

Graphics card just fail without any warning tbh. As for messages Asus post reporter can be strange sometimes (currently having problems myself).
