So many independent MMOs being developed right now, especially by tiny studios and 1-man teams. I've picked 10 that seem more promising to me, and that are (somewhat) popular. Let me know if you find something I could improve in this post.

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Star Citizen
[Alpha]
Setting: Science-Fiction || Focus: PvP || Budget: $348M || Engine: Lumberyard
  • Spiritual successor to Freelancer
  • Procedurally generated and handcrafted stunning worlds
  • Open world PvP with high speed dog fights with multi-crew ships or intense FPS warfare

Pantheon

Not fond of PVP in MMOs so toxic.
Yea in general the interactions are more harmonious in PvE games. But playing with a guild can help to have some respectful relationships.

Ashes of Creation and Gloria Victis for me, they look great.
Agreed, Ashes of Creation graphics are pretty good, and I like Gloria Victis gameplay.

Great post btw, thankyou.
Thanks!

As I've been in the pre-Alpha for a few years now, it goes without saying that Pantheon is the one I'm looking forward to.
Seems promising but the development is pretty slow. They're showing dungeons, which are cool, but I don't know how they've progressed with the rest of the game world.

So it’s either Space or medieval fantasy. A bit more diversity wouldn’t go amiss.
There are super-hero MMO projects (Valiance Online, City of Titans, Ship of Heroes), which are basically spiritual successors of City of Heroes, I could actually add them to my list but for some reasons I don't.

Thats one of the big questions, obviously I've been in the pre-alpha for a number of years so I've been able to play in some of the rest of the game world but there is always that question of how much more of it has been done that we havent yet been able to see.

Have you participated in the stress test for Mortal Online 2? There are some great battles (large-scale) happening. Here's an example:

Unfortunately not. I've watched a few people playing the game though on youtube. I'm not normally in to pvp style battles. But this game reminds me a little of Ultima Online but a modern version.. i.e. the crafting and developement of player interaction with the towns and merchants.

I think its going to be buy 2 play?

I'm liking the look of it, including the pvp :)
