Hey guys,

Okay I am using a crummy £10 generic keyboard at the moment which is really starting to grate on me...

I do play games such as skyrim, eve on-line etc some functionality for that would be nice however I'm more concerned with typing, I've taken up writing as a hobby and also need to do a lot of assignments for college and the like... so what keyboard would be best for gaming and staving off repetitive strain injury?

I was thinking maybe the Steelseries 7G Gaming Mechanical Keyboard (64018)?

staving off repetitive strain injury?

Have you considered an ergonomic keyboard?

I'm a software developer and have used many keyboards including IBM's original Model M. The most comfortable keyboard I have found is the Ergonomic 4000 above. It takes a bit of getting use to, and you'll be slightly slower on regular keyboards once you have adapted. I have 3 of these keyboards (2 at home 1 in office). Once your use to ergonomic layout you realise how cramped the keys feel on a regular keyboard. Most people will never realised this as the regular keyboard design is all their use to.

There is one problem however the keyboard is very wide, if you use a mouse in right hand then your right hand is forced to operate quite a bit to right. I however use a left handed mouse so this is no problem.

As yes you can play games, I have used above to play Bad Company 2 :-)

I really like the look of that board and the look of the price, but I'm a bit concerned by the lack of robustness people keep reporting on... How long have you had yours and what problems have you encountered?

I'd go for something mechanical, they will last you years and years and..

The MK-80 as said in the first post would be a very good option, and it has the Cherry Blue switches, which are the 'typist' switch :)

I got a Cyborg V5 recently and I love it, but its cheap compared to the one you mentioned.

Still its solid as hell, lights up nicely and the programming is really simple (can program all the function keys).
