I've just picked up the new goldring ones for £50. Theyre quite good. comply tips give the best isolation ive ever heard ( or not heard lol )
Ive had shure 2's, various sony ones and others. these are my favourites so far.
only problem i have with them is they seem to have two kinda volume bands, i find i have to go past half volume to get the best out of them. they lose a lot of detail at low volume ( kinda hard to explain, but that sums it up )
Haven't tried all that many; a couple of sony models, the Xtrememac fs1s (which got really good reviews but I didn't think were that great) and currently have shure e2gs (basically just black e2cs). I'm very very impressed with the Shure's I must say, extremely happy with them. And they came in at 40 quid when I got them.
EDIT: geez, and just looking around a bit looks like you can now get the e2cs for 30 quid or less pretty easily... Those goldrings do look really nice though, might have to think of them when I next need a pair.
Well, since I've not tried the goldrings and RB has tried both them and the E2Cs, I'd probably go for the Goldrings - though if there's much of a price difference I think you'd be extremely happy with the E2C\Gs. BTW, which in ear headphones have you used in the past? If you've not really tried any, you might want to find a store that has some sample models (some stores offer them, not many though) since I know some people just don't like the in ear ones at all...
