In-Game Video Capture Software

What's the preferred choice for capturing game footage? Afterburner seems a bit crap, and I prefer not to install GFE if it can be avoided.

OBS is one of most well known.
I use AMD's Relive, but that's not an option for you

Action is decent but not free and uses the GPU for encoding. But OBS is an excellent choice.
Thankfully AMD dont make AMD users sign up for crapware

So Relive is my go to recording software

@shankly1985 @Fishbait thanks, I'll give OBS a try. And I agree, AMD would have been a better choice for this... If only I could game at 24fps like the videos.

If you use the correct settings. OBS does more than Nvidia/AMD drivers but it also needs more understand to get the best from it. Its not just simple click and record unless you happy with rubbish image quality.

JackFrags Video settings are very good. if you want even better IQ lower the CQP results in better quality but bigger files size and worst performance. 18 is a very good starting point.

Using Quick Sync with your Intel CPU is also a good option in OBS Studio.. i've done 75Mbps with next to no perf loss

This is working perfectly, although I had to change the res from 1920*1080 to 3440*1440.

Is there any way to set up the hot key so that you can trigger it during a game? It seems to be setup so that you need to be always recording? Plus, if I forget to switch recording off it's just going to go until it fills the SSD.

Since Relive i stopped using alternatives as our capture software has the lowest performance hit and highest quality.

Unfortunately, your "high end" GPU's have the biggest performance hit so Relive not an option for me.

Interesting, third party testing and my own results say the opposite, and I've tried them all prior to Relive.

In the encoder settings there should be a QuickSync option. However looking at your sig it's only your first system that supports it. Another alternative is to use the encoder on your Nvidia GPU, which will be NVENC. This setting will also match the performance/quality of GFE.

Yes, I've got NVENC set as the video a couple of posts up advises it. It's working great, I just need to suss how to know when I've toggled it on/off in-game.

Of course, it's the AMD equivalent to ShadowPlay.
