in game vsync or driver vsync??

Possibly depends on the game, but Some games absolutely require Vsync setting in the Nvidia/AMD control panel.

Dead Space being one of these games, it's unplayable otherwise.

I generally use the in-game settings, unless there is a problem with it where it has to be forced through the control panel

Never come across a problem using Adaptive Vsync via Nvidia control panel. In the past it was a case of having to use the games Vsync setting to get rid of screen tearing but these days is can cause input lag in some cases.
