Hi All

I currently have a plex setup and i find that to be very good for our needs but a friend of mine has asked a question and I would like an answer if this type of thing exists.

Basically they would like a plex like system that you can control from a tablet/ phone via an app.
A central server hosting music and video then small plug indevices for local playback via an amp / hifi / TV. Does something like this exist for Audio and Video.
I did wonder if they could get some chrome casts and cast from their mobile/tablet to the chromecasts for audio/video but i'm not sure if this is possible.

Any advice is very welcome :)

I'm pretty sure you could use fire sticks, and use phones/tablets as remotes. It won't be quite as elegant as casting properly from your phone, but it'll be controlled from there and you can then use plex or kodi from the firestick. It would require a bit of fiddling, with use of a third party app downloader on the firesticks and certain remote apps on the mobile devices but then if you're setting up a home server you're likely a bit of a fiddler anyway :p

Have a Google about, I haven't got around to setting it up yet but in my reading it sounded like one way of doing what you're describing.

Cheers for that i will have a look, i have done a little more reading now and it seem the casting side of plex is a lot better than it used to be. For me i have not really been using it for audio at all so this has never been an issue. You are right i like to fiddle, i was wondering if there was a sloution where i could use a raspberry pi zero w, and if anyone had done something similar.
