Hey all.
Im in need of a new graphics card for my system as the one i've currently got is way too loud

i've got an hd3850 and 8800gts and they are both very loud

right now i only use my PC for photoshop, programming, and watching some HD movies
i dont play games on my PC. but i do like to have a quick system.

p.s im running vista 64bit

can anyone recommend a graphics card which is quiet or a really good quiet fan for either of the cards i've got?

Thanks guys/gals

Hey Tiger33, I wonder which HD4850 do u have please? I am using a Sapphire model and it's quiet until totally maxed under full load. Having said that my case is the P182 sealed up and under the desk.

Is yours on an open platform then?

and as krooton suggested the Arctic Accelero S1 would be very quiet! :)

i have a hd3850 not a 4850

powercooler version

umm reading a bit more about the Accelero S1 - seems to be a lot of issues with getting it to fit etc

any other suggestions ? coolers or graphics cards (would prefer cards as its then a lot easier for me to install refer than playing around with removing coolers and risking damage etc)

Have you considered using Rivatuner to linearly control the fan on your 8800? I do with my 8800GT and its inaudible at idle. Under load, I don't hear it while playing games, audible if I turn the sound down, but not what I'd call loud by any stretch. I'm currently using my old (4 years) PC while I'm sorting out a new mobo, and am considering getting ear-muffs!

does this work okay in vista 64?

Tiger33: The S1 is very easy to fit, takes 20mins max including cleaning off the old gunk from both GPU/Mem.

a lot of folk stated the memory heatsinks would fall off and eventually Arctic updated the thermal pads, old ones have a white base and the new ones have a pink base. I tested the old ones and they worked fine but you have to make sure you given the memory a good clean and then give each sink about 30 seconds of firm pressure when u apply it.

which card to install on though... hd3850 or 8800gts?
Neither, sell them both and buy one of these!

You may think I'm joking but I bet you could end up with a single better card and cash in your pocket!

do what you feel is best, I'll say no more on the subject.

was playing around with the pc the other day and it turned out it wasnt eh graphics card making all the NOISE!

it was the cpu fan!!! - replaced with a syinth mine cooler (not sure i spelt that right hehe) and wow! what a difference

the new cooler is amazing - i dont even hear it yet my cpu temp is like 30c!! - before it was 50+C (running an amd 6400 dual core by the way)

so thanks guys

also rivatuner was fantastic worked great

get 8800gts 512 it runs on 39% fan speed and does not have any noice or buy 4850 but i dont know if cooler is load or not

wouldn't a passivly cooled card do, 1 problem i can see with them is if the heat sink get's clogged then it will affect the performance

i do have a 800gts and its running at about 40% right now ;-)

and the issue with the noise was the cpu fan
all fixed - replaced with a fantastic cooler! best £25 i've spent in a long time!
