Any recommendations on a good torch. not to big or heavy and not to expensive. willing to spend 20-40 pound
Fenix LD20
for the price of a Fenix LD20 you could buy SIX of the romisen torches that i linked to.
i don't understand why people are so eager to pay huge amounts for Fenix Torches...
now thats a light. but hard to put into your pocket
unlike nearly all Chinese torches, the clicky-switch on the back works "forwards", ie, you can push it halfway and the torch will turn on until you release. most Chinese torches (including fenix ones!) won't turn on until you push the button all the way until it clicks and then release.

<edit> and it doesn't have any annoying modes. it's just on and off.
read up mate it has
General mode - 9 lumens (71 hours) - 47 lumens (13 hours) - 94 lumens (5 hours) - SOS signaling. Turbo mode - 180 lumens constant (1.3 hours) - strobe. All figures using 2500 mah Ni-mh batteries
Romisen torches are just as well built as Fenix torches. they're both well machined out of pretty good quality aluminium. my RC-G2 and RC-F4 have never failed to light at all. "reliability" is a thing that was a factor when torches still used bulbs and were made of plastic. the game's changed.Build quality, reliability and 180lumens of output i would have thought?
I dont have one but they are amazing torches.
1. i keep my torch in a holster on my belt - nothing presses up against it.And that's a good thing why? It just means it something is pressing against it in your rucksack, it juices all your battery. Regarding "annoying modes", I find the varying levels of power very useful, the SOS one is just there in case you need it, and the very rapid flash setting is good for annoying your mates and deterring sex pests.
Fenix torches are expensive but they're built very well and will last forever. They also tend to have reasonable levels of water proofing and are extremely light weight (good materials used) and efficient.
That's funny, because my Fenix does just that.
Push the button slightly and it's on until I let go, push the button a bit more til it "clicks" and it stays on until you press it again.
It also has only 2 modes when on, medium power (around 100lumens and 12+ hours life) and high power (200lumes and around 3 hours), just by twisting the head (like maglites focus).![]()
