Hi!

I've posted something like this before but it has only just gotten around to the point where I can afford a new PSU :(
Just looking for some advice on whats good for the money nowdays!

PC Spec:
Mainboard : Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
Processor : AMD FX 8320 @ 3500 MHz (max : 10040)
Physical Memory : 16384 MB
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
Operating System : Windows 7 Ultimate Professional Media Center 6.01.7601 Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
Hard Drives : 1x 120gb SSD, 1x 250gb HDD, 2x 2tb HDD
PSU : XFX Pro 550W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Not too sure about budget yet but I was hoping for a decent PSU which would last a while through some more future upgrades. (Hoping for something under £100 though)

Many thanks!

If there's nothing wrong with your current psu then wait until you next upgrade before buying a new one. It has plenty of power for your current spec and if anything pc's are using less and less power thes days so really unless you stick a second gpu in you should be good for some time to come.

If it's a possible source of problems then you may as well get a new one then. You can alway's sell it on or keep it as a spare.

A good quality 550w psu is more than enough for your system even with overclocking so here is a selection of 550-650w units for you to consider:-

My basket at Overclockers UK:

The Superflower units are both single 12v rail designs with the 550w being able to deliver the whole of it's 550w on the 12v rail while the 650w version can deliver 649w on it's 12v rail. Both have 5 year warranties. Be warned that both of these units have bright white leds where you plug the cables in and they cannot be turned off.

The EVGA units are built by Seasonic and once again are both single 12v rail units. The 550w version has a 540w 12v rail while the 650w version has a 648w 12v rail. Both have a 5 year warranty.

The XFX units are also Seasonic built and are both single 12v rail designs. The 550w version has a 540w 12v rail while the 650w version has a 648w 12v rail. Both units once again have a 5 year warranty.

EVGA G2 650w - Basically a Superflower Leadex gold with a different fan, no leds and a longer warranty. Single 650w 12v rail, fully modular and a 7 year warranty.

Other units worth checking out but not available from OCUK due to being out of stock or simply not sold here are:-

EVGA G2 550w - Basically a Superflower Leadex gold with a different fan, no leds and a longer warranty. Single 550w 12v rail, fully modular and a 7 year warranty.

EVGA GQ 650w - FSP built semi-modular unit with a single 12v rail of 650w and a 5 year warranty.

If it were me I would be tracking down a EVGA G2 as they are cracking units and argueably one of the best platforms currently around.
