In need of a website...

hmmm

Not allowed to post links to our blogs now?

I'm pretty sure if I was looking for work I wouldn't be actively doing it on Overclockers or any online forums. What's wrong with showing off what I have done on my website though?

Keep your hmmm's to yourself :p

oh noes! wasn't in any derogatory way mate, i was pointing out that you were a designer (WASN'T PROMOTING HIM IN ANYWAY BEFORE I GET SUSPENDED....again). That's why the hmm was there, not because you were looking for work, but to compare a good website to a cheap and nasty one!

edit: and i also realised I quoted the wrong flipping post further up ><

Glad I didn't go in all guns blazing then :p Was just checking you weren't thinking I was one of "those"!

But back on track, if you want a CMS where you can add/remove/update sections of the website easily, and a great design, you will have to pay for it. Even from a student it would be cost a few hundred as it is a fair amount of work depending how customisable you want the website to be.

A good and experienced designer/developer would be looking to charge in excess of £1000, easily. Maybe try a free/cheap template from themeforest (or similar) and hire a developer to customise a default Wordpress installation?

That way you would have a CMS working how you want it and using Wordpress or a similar CMS you can always change the design without affecting the functionality of the website. So if you came into some money or decided to invest into the website properly you could get it redesigned at a separate point in time.

That's actually bloomin' nice mate, me likey :)

If you need one in a hurry, I think it would be better to set up a wordpress photo blog yourself.

Won't take long at all and is very simple.

You can then get a more tailored site when you're ready.

£1000 is what I would personally budget for such a site. I don't think people quite realise how complicated web design is.

Yer an a lot don't realise exactly how much is actually involved in a making a website. Was exp[laing the a client yesterday why a bespoke e-commerce store would cost ~£2500.
