In need of decent router

Hello, i have recently bought a dg834pn and wpn311 wireless nic. And have been appalled at the network performance. It's meant to be able to connect at 108mbps, yet it will connect at only 54mbps and i only ever get a maximum of about 12mbps throughput even when the router is sitting 2m away from my computer. Which is unacceptable by any means, considering it should be 30-40mbps. So i am sending back this trash. And i need some help picking a proper router.

It needs to be a router+switch+modem and be able to handle heavy bitorrent usage, have 108mbps wireless capabilities, QOS, wpa2 encryption standards, mac filtering and i'm interested in voip. The whole shebang.

My price limit is probably around £130 - 150.

I have been looking at the draytek 2800vg, though i have read that it does not perform well on noisy lines that are far from the exchange. Though i am not sure how to determine how noisy my line is or how far to the exchange.

Any other suggestions are most welcome.

Many thanks,
Ganesh.

Hi

I have the Vigor 2800VG router and it performs really well. I'm using the VoIP ports with two separate SIP providers and it works flawlessly. (you can have have up to 6 SIP providers in total.)

My SNR has improved by about 5db compared to my previous router and it will hold onto a line for months without a problem.

You can find out how far you are away from your exchange by visiting this web site:

Enter your phone number & postcode.
When the results are displayed click 'Locality' and it should display a map and straight line distance from your local exchange.
