I love Wayne Rooney. Watching him at Euro 2004 was incredible, and I truly felt like we witnessed something special, which we did. He's undoubtedly one of the best England players to ever play the game. I remember the whole world buzzing about Wayne Rooney after Euro 2004. From the players to the fans, I personally heard multiple accounts from different countries expressing awe for him—and I was in awe of him too.
Watching Benzema against Man United in 2008 was unbelievable - he ran Rio and Vidic ragged, and he was just 18 at the time. He was so unpredictable back then, but I noticed a real downturn when he moved to Real. But, boy, did he adapt. He went on to become one of the most successful and the best players ever; - and, he also had a renaissance when Ronaldo left, which brought out his explosiveness which he always had.
But there's also Zlatan. I'm not sure how to label him except as: He's 6'5, hard as **** and he has scored an overhead kick from 40 yards out.
I love all of them. Ultimately though, I think I'd have Wazza, as he was just more exciting, whereas, whilst Benzema had that explosiveness while he was at Lyon, he was more controlled and did a lot of what Rooney did at United for Ronaldo. Nonetheless, he was superb and had the best years after Ronaldo left, as they both did.
With Ibra - he's a virtuoso and a joy to watch but a bit like George Best, slightly forgotten by the fact that he didn't win a lot and played for a relatively small country.
But wait.. There is a player, that in my opinion, was untouchable for around 3 seasons. His name is Robin van Persie. I think there is a period between where he played out of his skin for Arsenal and that one season where he single-handedly won the league for United - that was a truly remarkable period; one of the most stunning, elegant and absolutely ****-house displays I've seen. van Persie was sight to be hold and thus, he is my wild card and my favourite out of all of them.
I'll spoiler it for all the Arsenal fans.
