I am just going round and round in circles here, I am looking to upgrade my GPU and monitor, I have opted for a 7970: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-059-OE but can’t decide which 27" 2560x1440 monitor to go for as they all seem to have some sort of drawback or bad comments.
What monitors do you guys game on with this res? Any advice or comments of your experience would be appreciated.

narrowed down at all? what are your uses?

popular choices would include the Dell U2713HM (maybe U2713H depending on use), Asus PB278Q, maybe something like the ViewSonic VP2770-LED, HP ZR2740w v2 or Samsung S27A850D perhaps...

The primary use will be games, I have considered most of the 27" screens on offer and favour the Dell U2713HM but have read its a bit of a gamble on the screen you will get regarding light bleed and tinting.
I am mainly interested in what guys currently use for gaming and what the opinions are of the screens they use.

You can grab the U2713HM and use the warranty on it to keep getting at Dell until you get a good model, if you have the patience? I'd say it is worth it. And the more returns dell get for the same issues, the more likely they will notice and fix them. :D

I currently use the Hazro HZ27WC non-glass.

Pros:

The panel is really nice (same one used in the Apple Cinema Displays) with great picture quality, nice colours and deep blacks, etc. Input lag isn't too bad for an IPS panel (single DVI input helps here). It used to be cheaper but is still cheap, good value for quality of panel. Its factory calibrated, so no messing about.. Plug and play. I didn't detect any bleed with mine, and only very minor IPS glow.

Cons:

The bezel is mediocre and the stand is awful. It only has a single DVI input. The warranty isn't as good as some of the others, particularly the Dell's. Mine came with a dead pixel at the bottom of the screen. I don't really notice it, but its still there and I don't think your guaranteed a perfect panel with Hazro. And apart from a few pre-sets you cant calibrate it, its not bad out of the box, but not perfect either.

Thoughts:

I purchased mine solely for PC gaming and tbh its served me really well. The panel is a joy to game with. But it is at the value end of the spectrum, so don't expect perfection. If you want that then you'll have to pay to get it.

I don’t mind paying the premium to buy the right piece of kit for the job, so any recommendations would be considered.

i'd agree with this. Would seem the best option for your needs i think, and after sales support is excellent should you have any big problems

Basically since LED backlights (and CCFL were not always perfect either) these problems are possible in any screen....

If you pay more money you are less likely to get these problems because for example Dell may use an A+ grade panel with no pixel and backlight issues whereas something like Hazro may use a A- panel with a few minor issues.... Basically any monitor can have these issues and it is pretty much luck... It is a case of maximising your odds by getting a good brand with a warranty or taking a risk and getting one of the cheaper panels... Sadly this is what monitors are sold like at the moment with no real guarantee of quality...

I went through 10 different LED TV's expecting to eventually get one that was perfect but I have learnt that basically all of them have issues with backlight clouding etc. and it is jsut a case of getting one with minimal issues you do not notice too much.

Amazing piece of kit! I was very concerned about all the negative info about these screes, but when I got mine today...PERFECT! no light bleed or anything.
Stunning monitor, games look amazing so very happy.

I also have a dell 27" and love it,only had 4 monitors in my time and all have been good upgrades (19" to 24" ect ) and the dell is truly the best part of my pc.
