Spec is:

Mobo - MSI K9N Neo-F V3 Socket AM2 nForce560
Processor - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
HD- Western Digital WD1600JS Caviar SE 160GB 7200RPM SATAII/300 8MB Cache
Gfx - MSI NX7100GS-TD128E
Audio - Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1
DVD - Samsung SH-S183 SATA 18x DVD±RW/RAM Black
Wireless - Dynamode WLGI700S Wireless USB Network Adapter 802.11g

But how do I do SP2 without the internet?

Also, I am always confused as to the gfx on this set up - the mobo seems to install something...

personally:

Service pack (download the package)
motherboard drivers
graphics drivers
latest directx
all other component drivers
firefox + addons
anti spyware programs (purely for the immunization bit)
software
turn off all crappy services if not using nlite

done :) ( no doubt missed something there though )

I have just realised I am using the SP2 disc anyway - that comes with Direct x 9c so that is the latest, isnt it?

I was under the impression that Direct x 10 was Vista only?

Anyway, how would you do direct x without an internet connnection?

There's a great Windows XP guide at tweakguides.com. I recommend you read through it.

Here's my 2 cents though - download all drivers prior to windows installation, so they are on hand.

I install the motherboard drivers first, then video, then update windows. Then update windows again (because a lot of updates require previous updates to install.)

I'd chuck SP2 on there first (download / burn to a CD)
Mobo / NIC Drivers
Rest of the drivers
Windows Update

Should bring you quickly up to date.

slipstream sp3 into the xp disc, then install with the new disc

(lan),
chipset, reboot
graphics, reboot
sound, reboot
any others, reboot
