I got my new Abit board yesterday, carefully installed everything so it was nice and neat. That's right where the fun ended.

Problems,

Stability - There's a joke, there isn't any. Random crashes, bsod's, file corruption, unable to install video drivers and appear after a reboot. Vista install was a joke, corruption on files, not finding hard drives, I can repeat my serial code off the top of my head I've read it that many times.

Bios - Well this is a new one on me. Go into Uguru, highlight anything you want to change, sli memory for an example hit enter and be presented with nothing. No list of commands, no cpu oc0%, no disable, no expert - nothing. Press esc to get out of it and it locks up, reboot time. Go in do the same lock up. On the fly lock up. You have to use pgup and pgdn to select and save via F10. Reboot and it will start if your lucky. But will still be unstable. Usually at this point it defaults the nb voltage to 1.5 instead of the 1.35 I have it set at in the bios.

Gave up on Vista and tried to reload XP, finished the install and just before it starts after the XP loading screen BSOD too quick to see the error.

System

Intel E6600
Abit IN9-32X
2 x Corsair 6400c4 Pro x 1gb (sli approved)
2 x 8800 GTX
Silverstone Zeus 750 (on the sli approved as suitable for 2 8800's)
Sliverstone TJ09

I tried resetting the cmos several times, tried different cheap ram, one vid card and all the usual rubbish.

I wouldn't mind but this is the replacement for the Striker extreme I had that died via the infamous 803 bios upgrade. I should have just got a replacement.
I thought Abit are supposed to be good, I shoul;d have learnt from the last board I had of theirs. Just been on their technical line and apparantly they are shut due to the snow. :(

I just thought I would vent a little and see if anyone has had something similar. I think I am going to RMA the board and not get a replacement. I'm a little disappointed with 680i chipset but have unfortunately now got two 8800's and so am knackered. I have been put off the EVGA and the like because of all the problems but am now not sure what to do. The striker was super stable until the bios trouble, so I am thinking "better the devil you know" at the minute.

And how hot does that rubbish heatsink on the northbridge get? :O

Any help or advice would definitely be appreciated.

I take it that you checked the memory voltage as your Vista install problems sound like memory.

Anyway, best place to go is the abit-USA forum as that's where you'll find the most people with actual experience of the board plus there's a beta BIOS available.

Did you plug a 4-pin milex into the mobo near the bottom of the board (for PCI-E graphics cards)?

If you did, take it out as you don't need it with 8800 cards.
