Does this drive anyone else up the wall? Since when is "inbox" a verb? Why can't these people say "send me a message" or "send me a pm" or something more conventional? What's wrong with these people?

First brexit, then Trump, and now this

The world's gone mad I tell you!

Why are you surprised? The general denigration of the English language has been happening for years now. Some of the additions to the OED over the latest 15 years or so have been ridiculous.

Not heard people saying it much but doesn't really bother me - in the end not really any different to any other "mail me", "phone me", etc. type phrase even if not strictly the most correct usage.

I have. Normally from city types who like to use cool words and often American ones. "Can I get a coffee". No you twit, you can buy a coffee.

Some people would say its just reflecting naturally flow and change in language? Afterall we don't speak in Shakespearean English anymore do we?

This is one of the ones I always correct people on. 'Can I HAVE a coffee'

Our old English teacher at school used to do this to boys at the staff room door.

Boy "Please Mr Hardaker, can I see Mr Solomon?"
Mr Hardaker "I don't know, can you?"

This would go on for up to five minutes.
