I was driving along the A27 in Chilworth when a car pulled out in right in front of me with no lights on. I had to brake incredibly hard to avoid hitting it. I flashed my lights for 3/4 of a mile before the guy put his lights on. It was pretty obvious to me he had been drinking. I phoned the police and gave the reg details, expecting them not to do anything about it.

To my surprise 45 minutes later they have just called me, saying that they went to the home address of the vehicle, found it there and found a drunk man inside the house. They said that in order to arrest him they needed me to say I had seen him driving or for him to admit to an offence. Sadly I had to say to them that because it was dark I had no way of telling who was driving. So he'll most likely just say his wife was driving and get away with it.

Pretty angry that he almost caused an accident but actually very impressed/surprised Hampshire Police bothered to follow it up. I feel like a bit of a grass but there isn't really any excuse for leaving a pub and driving home drunk at 11pm.

hopefully it'll remind him that it's not acceptable to drive when drunk, and he won't do it again.

Yeah that is what I thought. I imagine it will scare the hell out of him that someone noticed he was drunk on his way home.

probably so ****** he won't recall when he sobers up.

I'd have been very sorely tempted to drop him in it!

I had a similar incident not an hour ago, driving through Stoke-on-Trent, (just finished a night shift) a car drove at me on my side of the road, I had to swerve & brake violently to avoid him, I got a good look at the bloke, I'm quite sure he had'nt even seen me!

He drove away, still on the wrong side of the road, alas, I did'nt get his number.

I once caught a drunk guy spitting on cars outside my first flat, I went down and 'persuaded' him to get the hell out of the area and he jumped into a car. My flatmate called the police and as we knew the area the guy came from they intercepted him and nicked him!

R124 i had the exact same thing happen to me last night whilst on the way home from work at the bottom end of hanley the guy drove straight towards me untill we both had to stop a metre away from each other and then he just started staring into space, so i drove around him rather annoyed and then he carried on his course on the wrong side of the road! Looking at him though i think he had forgotten which side he should be driving on as he looked eastern european and not drunk :D
