Inconsistent backlighting?

I'm talking about laptops, but I guess it applies to all monitors. How can you prove inconsistent back lighting? I realise some people don't mind minor imperfections on screen, and probably don't notice them, but I've always been very picky about it. I've recently got a 17" desktop replacement, and there's very slight shadow in one corner. Its at the borderline of what I consider acceptable, only an IQ fascist (you know who you are) would even detect it. I could probably live with it though its that borderline.

What do we all think about it.

I've a few screens around the place and I've been going around comparing them. As you say most of them aren't perfect, with some shadowing here and there but what I've noticed is that the one I have a problem is pretty much very good all over except one corner and its this more pronounced difference from one corner to the others that is bothering me. Basically its more distracting than the others.

Ironically of all the screens I have access to, the cheapest screen is the best quality, no shadowing and evenly lit. its also the smallest screen.
