I'm running 16gb of Patriot Viper DDR4 3200 on an Asrock AB350 Pro4 with an R5 1600. I've been having random restarts and black screens so i rolled my overclock back to stock and started diagnosing.

Running BurnInTest at max ram would complete 3/4 of the time, when it did crash it had been running for over 20 minutes.

Running MemTest @3200 (using XMP setting in the bios), eight instances open (7x2gb, the last on "available ram") and the first time around i was only 30% into the run and i had over a dozen faults on each tab, it BSOD and rebooted before i had the presence of mind to do a screen grab.

Rebooted, put the ram back to default, reran MemTest and everything ran through to 200% with no errors.

Rebooted again, put XMP settings back on and ran up MemTest again. This time it's not throwing up any errors. wtf?

The memory is using Samsung d-die but isn't on the approval list for this mobo (the 4gb sticks are, the 8gb sticks aren't).

Is this just the incompatibility causing a problem or is there something else?

(i'd forgotten how long diagnosis takes!)

EDIT 1 - After a successful MemTest run @3200, i tried BIT again and it failed after about 15 minutes. I tried MemTest again and this time i got errors in almost every run. :(

Make sure bios is up to date and then try testing with a single stick each time in the same slot. If one keeps failing you have a faulty ram stick. If neither do possibly one of the ram sockets on the motherboard is faulty, try one known working stick in every slot.

Generally b die ram is fine at 3200 but Hynix will often struggle.
