Hi, this could be a dumb question, so here goes...

I've got an X9650 on standard settings, completely new build, in an Asus P5K Premium board (bios up to date) all settings untouched at the moment. I've just run CPU-Z and the core speed is showing up at 2000mhz (more detail below). When I look at the system details in 3Dmark06 it shows the core speed as 3000! Am a little confused!

Thanks in advance.

Core Speed 2000mhz
Multiplier x6.0
Bus Speed 333.3mhz
Rated FSB 1333.3mhz

load up something cpu intensive, it should jump to 3000

only uses extra when it needs it

welcome to the forums

yea i disabled them, i want my beast running to the max at all times :)

Thats daft, its like revving your car to the redline while waiting for the lights to go green.

If you're not using the power there is no call for it, and as soon as an app needs the power its instantly available.

eh, how else u supposed to overclock then...

Just the same way you do with Speedstep disabled?

The only difference is for example on a Q6600 stock speed is 2400Mhz, while its idle it drops to 1600Mhz.

While you have that same chip overclocked the speed is 3600Mhz, when idle it is 2400Mhz.

Simple.
