Increase in Xbox live account hacks

They told me I would receive an email in 20 days, should be cut and dry for me have not used the xbox live for 14 months and dont have the Xbox anymore and the other log n has appeared with a different xbox.

I've just had my account hacked as well. As soon as I get my account back I'm removing my CC from my Live account and I shan't but anything else from them until they beef up their security. Compared to what other services are now offering their security is TERRIBLE, especially considering they're group three big services to one account now. No excuse for not offering better protection like an RSA fob.

i tried to remove my credit card details from the account in fear of being hacked. As it turns out it was a complete nightmare to do so.

I found it very easy to remove card details from xbox.com. Login and go to accounts then manage payment options and the remove button does what you expect, this can be done via the dashboard as well so not sure why you found it a nightmare?

So my brother woke up to an email thanking him for purchsing 6000 msp yesterday. Thankfully it didnt go through and got reversed as it was through paypal.

Definately recommend removing all your cards and paypal accounts from your xbox live accounts..

Just had a cool chat with xbox live support. I wanted to remove my Credit Card from the account (which had expired any ways - but we all know this doesn't stop MS). As I keep hearing about accounts being hacked and so forth. So I phoned them up. Spoke to this decent Irish guy who I explained the issue too, that it is too easy to buy stuff internally and that I like to get all my stuff externally using redeem codes and such.

he said you account is due to expire next year... But you're using 1 month codes, why is that? I said there was an offer on xbox live and he burst out laughing. Said you "stacked the account right" - I said yup and he said one second... spoke to his colleague and said he can't remove it due to these but he'll make the account silver, send out codes via email.

Codes came 2 minutes later, 13 months worth. So in essence, I turned off auto renewal, removed my card and got the 1 month xbox live codes for £1 changed into legit codes.

A good 10 minute call!

I don't understand this at all.

Is there somewhere where you can get 1 month gold subs for £1? Why did he have a problem with that? Some people pay for Xbox Live via a monthly sub anyway?

What's account stacking?

MS had an offer of £1 for a month of XBL Gold as long as you turned on auto-renew on the accompanying credit card/paypal. So £1 for the first month, then reverts to an automatic full-price monthly fee after that. They were hoping you'd forget about it and not mind the cost when they got you locked in.

Canny people kept reapplying and getting a month extension for £1 a pop, hence the stacking.

got hacked myself this morning :/

edit*

microsoft investigating, will take 25 days, should get a refund by the end of it.

meanwhile, no xbox live until then.
