Increase Resolution

Quick question.

Basically I want more space on screen. I'm running my 19" monitor at it's maximum res (1440x900). Lately I've been doing some work were I need a few windows open at once and it's getting a bit of a pain flicking between them all.

Obviously the best solution would be to buy a new montior to either replace or run 2 screens, but this is expensive!

Is there any program I can run which will give the effect of increasing resolution? i.e. it makes everything on screen smaller so it looks like it's running at a higher res if that makes sense...

Thanks.

Monitors with a higher res than yours are cheap, very cheap.

but I've never seen a piece of software that does what you'd like.

You could try a scrolling desktop however.

Would lowering the screen dpi go some way to achieving a similar result?
It's close. It does make things appear small but the result is not perfect, certain icons/bars stay the same size so it looks a bit of a mismatch. Also it all becomes very pixelated and so text is hard to reach which kind of defeats the point! I suppose that's to be expected though when moving from a 'native' size.

I've got an old CRT kicking about but it's only 15" and takes up my whole desk! I could go for a bigger screen but right now I can't justify £100 to save a couple of button clicks!
